Just because Valentine’s Day is over doesn’t mean you need to turn in your taste for chocolate just yet. Just kidding, does that even actually happen? Only craving chocolate around Valentine’s Day? Nah.

However, this week’s challenge was chocolate, and yesterday I spent the day making some decorative chocolates with cream filling, but I didn’t want them to count for the actual challenge.

So I decided to make these incredibly easy peanut butter cups as well!

This is literally all you need:

  • Peanut butter: The creamy peanut butter provides flavor and texture to the filling. It is also the main ingredient for this recipe.
  • Powdered sugar: The powdered sugar adds sweetness and helps the peanut butter form a pliable mass so that it can be easily molded into shape.
  • Butter: The butter is melted with the peanut butter to create a smooth and creamy texture in the filling.
  • Chocolate chips: The melted chocolate chips are used to coat the peanut butter filling and create a chocolate coating. They also add a rich chocolate flavor to the candy.

Making DIY Peanutbutter Cups at Home

  1. Melt peanut butter and butter in a saucepan until creamy.
  2. Slowly add powdered sugar to the mixture until it forms a pliable mass.
  3. Remove mixture from heat, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  4. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler.
  5. Fill a mold halfway with melted chocolate.
  6. Roll peanut butter mixture into small balls, flatten them slightly into disks, and place them in the mold.
  7. Cover the peanut butter disks with more melted chocolate.
  8. Tap the mold gently on a table to remove any air bubbles.
  9. Freeze the mold for 1 hour.
  10. Remove candy from the mold and enjoy!

Let’s Jump Into It!

Begin by melting the butter and peanut butter together in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.

After melting them together, gradually add sifted confectioner’s sugar to the mixture, a few tablespoons at a time. To keep the mixture creamy at the beginning, you can use a whisk, but as it thickens, switch to a wooden spoon.

When the mixture has formed into a pliable mass, remove it from the heat and form it into a ball. Then, place the ball in the fridge for about an hour, or until it has cooled and is easy to shape into small balls.

piping bag with chocolate chips

Using a piping bag, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals. After each interval, remove the bag from the microwave and place it on a towel to protect your hands from the heat. Gently squeeze the bag to help melt the chocolate.

Then, cut off the tip of the bag and pipe the melted chocolate into your mold, filling it about halfway. Next, roll the peanut butter mixture into small balls and flatten them into disks. Press the disks into the half-filled mold.

Pipe the remaining chocolate over the tops of the peanut butter disks, then tap the mold gently on a table to release any air bubbles.

Place the mold into your freezer and chill until it becomes frosty. Then, flip the mold over onto a table to release the chocolate candies. Although these candies are good when cold, they taste best at room temperature.
