What’s Up, Hungry People

I’m all about recipes that are super simple. While I love the challenge of making recipes from scratch or using lots of different ingredients, it’s just as rewarding to make something delicious that requires little effort and few components.

This recipe uses flaky biscuits, Colby cheese, and sautéed onions to create a fantastic pull-apart bread. Here’s a little trick: separate the flaky biscuits into two layers – this means you’ll have sixteen rolls instead of eight. Why do this? Well, it’s for optimal filling distribution and that irresistible pull-apart effect!

Here’s What You Need

  • Flaky Biscuit Dough: Provides the base and structure for the pull-apart bread.
  • Colby Cheddar Cheese: Adds creamy texture and rich, tangy flavor.
  • Onion: Offers a sweet, caramelized taste and aroma when cooked.
  • Butter: Used for sautéing onions, enhances flavor and helps in caramelization.
  • Fresh Parsley: Adds a fresh, herbaceous note and visual appeal.

Let’s Cook

First, sauté the onions in some butter until they’re caramelized. This is where the magic starts – those onions will turn beautifully golden and emit a sweet aroma that’s the soul of this dish.

layering pull apart bread

I cut my cheese into quarters and placed a square on each biscuit half. But here’s where you can get creative – feel free to use your favorite type of cheese, whether it’s shredded or sliced.

fresh parsley on layers

I added a twist by alternating the layers: some with just cheese, others with a delightful combination of cheese, onions, and fresh parsley. This not only adds layers of flavor but also gives a lovely visual appeal to each slice.

Then stack the biscuits in a bread loaf pan. Here’s the critical part: bake the bread for 6-10 minutes or until the top of the loaf is golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.

We basically devoured this bread as soon as it came out of the oven. The ooey-gooey layers of cheese combined with the sweet caramelized onion were absolutely divine. Plus, the whole thing took maybe fifteen minutes to make – so it’s both delicious AND quick. This recipe isn’t just food; it’s a statement – easy cooking can still lead to fantastic results.

Onion Cheddar Pull Apart Bread Tips

  • Choosing the Right Cheese: For a different flavor profile, try using different types of cheese like mozzarella for a milder taste or pepper jack for a spicy kick.
  • Achieving Perfect Caramelization: Cook the onions slowly on medium heat. Rushing this process can lead to burnt onions, which will affect the overall flavor of the bread.
  • Layering Your Biscuits: Be creative with how you layer your biscuits. Experiment with different patterns to create varying textures and flavors in each bite.
  • Checking for Doneness: Every oven is different, so keep an eye on your bread after 6 minutes. It should be golden brown and the biscuits should be cooked through.
  • Serving Suggestions: This bread is best enjoyed warm. If you have leftovers, reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to maintain the texture.
