At the end of every year, I like to look back on all the recipes I’ve made – not only to reminiscence on all the delicious meals I’ve eaten, but also to see how I grow as a chef, writer and photographer. This year, these ten recipes rose above the rest – garnering thousands of views, shares and pins. My blog traffic tripled in the past year and I have readers like you to thank for all the success!
Top 10 Recipes of 2017
Creme Brulee Cookies
The creme de la creme of cookies – with a vanilla pudding filling and a torched, caramelized sugar topping that cracks just like the real deal, these cookies are a whole new level of “how’d you make that?!”
Overnight Oats
2017 brought the rise of the overnight oats. People in search for an easy, portable breakfast are drawn to the easy-to-store, easy-to-heat mason jar method – or enjoy these oats cold!
Geode Cookies
Another cookie designed to deceive your senses – geode cookies can be molded together to be cracked open. Their insides reveal a sparkly sugar interior that looks like the authentic stone inspiration.
Game of Thrones Recipes: Gendry’s Bowl of Brown
This year’s season of Game of Thrones was by far the best season yet, so of course I was inspired to make recipes from Westeros and beyond. “Bowls of brown” are common across the seven kingdoms – stewing mystery meat with broth and barley. This soup will truly put you back in Fleabottom.
Game of Thrones Recipes: Daenerys’ Dragon Eggs
Another Game of Thrones recipe to add to the list are the Khaleesi’s dragon eggs. No fire is required to hatch these eggs as there’s no baking required at all.
Harry Potter Magical Recipes: House Elf Beef & Dumpling Stew
As popular as my Game of Thrones recipes were this year, my kitchen was also successfully turned into Hogwarts, where I worked as a House Elf to make this hearty dumpling stew. Perfect for a cold afternoon in the Great Hall, the soup is certainly magical.
Day Old Bread = French Bread Pizza
One of my favorite sandwich chains will usually sell you their unused loaves of bread for a few cents – and if I’m not making sandwiches, then I’m almost certainly making pizza! It’s the perfect way to utilize leftovers that result in something delicious.
Hanky Panky
Another classic holiday appetizer – ‘hanky panky’ goes by a variety of colorful names, but the recipe remains the same: a cheesy beefy topping on rye. It’s easy AND everyone loves it!
Maid Rites
A “hometown classic” for my mother’s side of the family, maid rites supposedly originated in Greenville, Ohio at a gum covered building in the small town. It’s a sweet, loose meat sandwich seasoned with onions and mustard – sounds strange, but this copy cat recipe is guaranteed to be delicious.
Crispitos
Hands down the most popular recipe of 2017 was this recipe for copy cat crispitos – something I fondly recall eating in high school and then never seeing again in my adult life. Determined to fix that, I made these crispitos a la “cafeteria style.”
It has been a great year for recipes – everything from savory to sweet! I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for my kitchen.
